Hey again, two posts in a day! wow, I am impressed whit myself. This time I want to talk about a photo that really amazes me, not as much as because of the incredible moment in the history of science it represents, but even more because of all the theories and conspiracies that has behind it, one of them sais that it was all a faux and that the landing was staged so the Americans could get ahead in the space race against the Russians.

I am talking about the Apollo 11´s journey, the infamous lunar landing and the photos taken on July 20 of 1969.

Carrying astronauts Neil A. Armstrong and Edwin E. Aldrin, Jr., the Lunar Module (LM) “Eagle” was the first crewed vehicle to land on the Moon. The LM landed on the moon’s surface on July 20, 1969 in the region known as Mare Tranquilitatis (the Sea of Tranquility). Meanwhile, astronaut Michael Collins piloted the command module in a parking orbit around the moon. This photo is of Edwin Aldrin walking on the lunar surface. Neil Armstrong, who took the photograph, can be seen reflected in Aldrin’s helmet visor. Armstrong was the first human to ever stand on the lunar surface. As he stepped off the LM, Armstrong proclaimed, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind”. He was followed by Edwin (Buzz) Aldrin, describing the lunar surface as magnificent desolation. The Apollo 11 mission launched from the Kennedy Space Center, Florida on July 16, 1969 via a Saturn V launch vehicle, and safely returned to Earth on July 24, 1969. The Saturn V vehicle was developed by the Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) under the direction of Dr. Wernher von Braun. The 3-man crew aboard the flight consisted of Neil A. Armstrong, commander; Michael Collins, Command Module pilot; and Edwin E. Aldrin Jr., Lunar Module pilot. During a 2½ hour surface exploration, the crew collected 47 pounds of lunar surface material which was returned to Earth for analysis. With the success of Apollo 11, the national objective to land men on the Moon and return them safely to Earth had been accomplished.

In this photo, in particular, we can see the astronaut Edwin Aldrin on the surface of the moon. You can see footprints in the soil, and parts of some equipment in the corner of the picture. The deep blackness of space can be seen in the horizon behind him.  The photo was taken be Neil Amstrong, who in fact you can see in the reflection of Aldrin´s helmet.

What I find interesting about this photo and this conspiracy is that involves one of my favorite movie directors. Stanly Kubrick! not just that, it is said that Kubrick left clues of the truth of the lunar landing, in one of my favorite movies, The Shining.

It is said that it was this director who promised to secrecy for the government of the USA that produced the footage that later will be televised 'live' to all the word.
Do I believe this conspiracy? no, but I find it amusing to think of what if is actually true? what would it mean for history?

It really doesn't matter if the picture is real or fake either way it has an incredible story behind it.

  1. This photo was full of history, I really wonder about how the space race was developed. On other hand, Stanley Kubrick was an amazing director, his movies were visually astonishing, and because of that it is not surprising that the moon landing conspiracy was linked to him.
